As indicated in other sections of this year’s Pizza Power Report, several of the major chains have struggled with same-store sales in the past year. The notable exceptions: Domino’s and Little Caesars. Domino’s, the country’s No. 1 pizza chain, kept rolling right along and reporting higher sales thanks in large part to a shrewd value strategy that continued to resonate with customers. No. 3 chain Little Caesars, meanwhile, has been a value-focused brand from the get-go, so it’s no surprise to see its ongoing success.
Once again PMQ Pizza has partnered with Datassential to provide a look at the top 30 pizza chains in the U.S., and how they stack up in terms of sales and total number of locations. As is typical of reports covering the chains’ annual sales and unit growth, the following data compares 2024 unit and sales growth to 2023.
1. Domino’s
2024 U.S. sales: $9.5 billion
2023 U.S. sales: $9.02 billion
2024 U.S. units: 7,014
2023: U.S. units: 6,854
2. Pizza Hut
2024 U.S. sales: $5.29 billion
2023 U.S. sales: $5.37 billion
2024 U.S. units: 6,518
2023 U.S. units: 6,568
3. Little Caesars
2024 U.S. sales: $4.93 billion
2023 U.S. sales: $4.42 billion
2024 U.S. units: 4,249
2023 U.S. units: 4,179
4. Papa Johns
2024 U.S. sales: $3.7 billion
2023 U.S. sales: $3.86 billion
2024 U.S. units: 3,291
2023 U.S. units: 3,220
5. Marco’s Pizza
2024 U.S. sales: $1.06 billion
2023 U.S. sales: $1.02 billion
2024 U.S. units: 1,159
2023 U.S. units: 1,114
It should be noted that Marco’s Pizza aims to move up and take over Papa Johns’ spot in the top 5 ranking. And judging by its store count growth between 2017 and 2024, the brand could be well on the way to doing exactly that.

Now here’s a look at how all 30 major chains stacked up against each other from 2023 to 2024, according to Datassential’s research. In terms of sales growth, some notable high performers included No. 10 Jet’s Pizza (5.5%); No. 14 Cici’s Pizza (8.3%); No. 16 Simple Simon’s Pizza (48.4%) and No. 21 Ledo Pizza (49.7%).
