Granville, NY, August 5, 2009 –Thirty-seven percent of diners say that the condition and appearance of the restaurant furnishings impact their decision to return to the restaurant, according to the latest Telescope Casual National Shopper Survey.

“In times when people are cutting back on their nights out, it’s important to keep a competitive edge by providing not only good food at good prices, but comfortable and attractive seating and up-to-date and fashionable surroundings as well. Clearly diners do pay attention to their surroundings and unpleasant furnishings can turn diners away for good,” says Kathy Juckett, Telescope Casual’s CEO.

Telescope’s CEO, Kathy Juckett, has provided Restaurant Furnishing Tips for Surviving the Recession:

  • 70% of diners notice if the furniture is comfortable, so make sure yours is!
  • Don’t let outdated furniture ruin the ambiance — 1/4 will notice
  • If your furnishings look even a little worn, it’s time to replace it.  39% notice old and used looking furniture
  • If you can’t afford a whole new redesign, then add a few pieces to make the look appear new and fresh – More than half of diners notice new furniture.

The Telescope National Shopper Survey is a national internet survey of 1500 adults conducted July 10 through July 22, by WSL Strategic Retail, shopper insight strategists and futurists.
