COMING SOON: The 5th Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest® to Benefit Children’s Charity, Sunday, May 31st Brooklyn Community Rallies Around Foster Children’s Charity BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (May 31, 2009)

This is a friendly reminder that Rocco’s Pizza on 5th and Super Roofer on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 3pm will be hosting “The 5th Annual Brooklyn Pizza-Eating Contest,” an exciting event to benefit the children of mercyFirst. This year, the event will be the featured centerpiece of the annual “5th Avenue Festival” which spans from 65th street to 86th street along 5th Avenue. The festival usually draws approximately 300,000 spectators, weather permitting. Based on our success in the past, and the very worthwhile charitable component of this event, the 5th Avenue Business Improvement District has agreed to expand the scope of the event this year to provide us with an entire block to conduct the contest. This year PULSE 87 radio DJ personality Borasio will host the event and handing out FREE giveaways.

The 5th Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest® is an event that brings together the top ranked competitive eaters from around the country. This year Sal Carbone 2-time defending champion will be back to defend his title. Sal Carbone is going up against pro-competitive eaters William Millander, Joel Podalsky and the #1 ranked WLOCE champ Dale Boone. This year’s event has some of the most gluttonous, insatiable, voracious contestants imaginable, pitted against one another in a desperate battle competing for the championship trophy, but more importantly, bragging rights and a $300 Grand Prize. Our goal for this event is to raise money for the children of MercyFirst, one of New York’s leading not-for-profit human service agencies serving more than 4,000 children, teenagers and families each year in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties. Rocco’s Pizza on 5th and Super Roofer will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from The 5th Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest® to the children of mercyFirst.

They will also be selling raffles and accepting donations at The 5th Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest® for the children of mercyFirst. (For more information on this event, please visit our website at: http://www.annualbrooklynpizzaeatingcontest.com/.) “This neighborhood has been so wonderful to us for over 30 years that we wanted to give something back,” says Joseph Loccisano, who co-owns Rocco’s with his brother Danny. “Considering the traffic we expect and the publicity we draw for the contest, we decided we should do something special every year for an important charity. MercyFirst has a local operation and does such amazing work with children. “The money we raise that day directly impacts the lives of the children of mercyFirst.”

This event is also made possible by generous donations from executive sponsor Super Roofer (718) 833-3508 ask for Bill Boshell and associate sponsors Grande Cheese Company (www.grande.com), Oliveri and Sons (www.aoliveriandsons.com), and Antonio Foods.

About the Annual Bay Ridge Pizza Eating Contest:
The Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest® is the original and largest event of its kind in Brooklyn, the undisputed and world-renowned capital of Pizza. Event organizers at Rocco’s Pizzeria select 5 to 7 speed eaters to compete for the title of Pizza Eating Champion of the world and a chance at a $300 prize. All contestants have 12 minutes to eat as many slices of Rocco’s famous thin crust pizza. By the way, “nobody makes a thin crust like we do.” Each contestant is provided with a beverage of choice (no alcohol) and judges are on hand to enforce all rules. Rocco’s Pizzeria and Restaurant, Inc owns all rights to the event and is the final decision on all contest related matters. Help us make a difference in the lives of children in need, buy a raffle or make a donation at the event.

About Rocco’s Pizzeria & Restaurant:
Rocco’s Pizzeria and Restaurant Inc., is located in the heart of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. We were founded in 1980 by our father, Rocco Loccisano. When Rocco’s first opened for business, our father had a philosophy that became the foundation for our success. That philosophy is to treat each customer as part of our family. With that idea still in mind, his sons, Daniel and Joseph Loccisano are continuing where Rocco left off. In 2009 Rocco’s Pizza added cheese calzones to its nationwide FEDEXUPS overnight shipping division. We also introduced our fresh baked Panini’s that are stuffed with grill chicken, broccoli rabe and fresh mozzarella, and fresh baked Italian bread. When you walk into Rocco’s, you are greeted as if you were a member of our family. While you are here, you will find a variety of more than 15 different types of pizza that are available by the slice. Each pie is made fresh by Danny or Joe using our family’s secret ingredients. If you are looking for the freshest rolls or calzones, visit our display case located at the end of the counter. There are always 8 to 10 types of calzones and rolls made fresh daily. So, if you are looking for a restaurant where the food is great, the atmosphere is warm and you are treated like part of the family, just come to Rocco’s Pizzeria and Restaurant Inc. Danny and Joe are waiting to welcome you into the family.
