According to a report from English.Hani.co.kr, “Smaller pizza stores, which have been under threat from multinational family restaurant franchises and large pizza chains, are preparing to fight back by launching a joint brand-name.”

The report said, “Joo Sang-hyeon, 42, who operates a smaller pizza store in the city of Gimje, North Jeolla Province, is leading the initiative of joint brand-name. Joo opened his pizza store in 2005, but revenues fell by 30 percent this year as he was hit by competition from family restaurant franchises and large pizza chains. As part of his efforts to find a breakthrough, in late January Joo started an Internet community site called, pizza-makers.”
