“Rene DeGuia figures it will be a three-man race next week in Las Vegas. The winner of Domino’s World’s Fastest Pizza Maker competition will be either him, Dennis Tran of Tallahassee or Pali Grewal of Great Britain. “Oh, yeah,” he says. “We’ll smoke those other guys,” according to the Sarasota Herald Tribune.

“All three are former champions, but they are very different. Tran is a brash showman.

“Very LeBron-like,” De Guia says, laughing. “He’ll have an entourage. He’ll do entrances and everything.”

Grewal, who owns dozens of franchises, probably doesn’t care about the $3,000 prize for first place.

“The money for him is chump change,” DeGuia says. “He just wants to win.”

And then there’s DeGuia, a 40-year-old father of four who owns and manages a single Domino’s franchise in Sarasota. He compares the pizza-making contest to high-level competition at the Sarasota Table Tennis Club.

“I still play hard,” DeGuia says. “If they want to beat me, they’re going to have to earn it.”
