According to the Kansas City Business Journal, “$10 pizzas helped NPC International Inc. roll up increases in sales and earnings during the second quarter.”
“Overland Park-based NPC, the largest Pizza Hut franchisee, reported total sales of $246.8 million for the quarter that ended June 29, up slightly more than 10 percent from sales of $223.8 million for the comparable period last year. Net income for the quarter totaled $5.1 million, up from $3.4 million in the second quarter of 2009. In a Friday release, NPC attributed the quarter’s sales increase to Pizza Hut’s $10 Any Pizza promotion. But careful control of costs helped NPC turn these lower-margin sales into higher profits. Direct labor costs of $70.8 million were up from $65.3 million for the comparable quarter. But this expense represents a lower percentage of net product sales — despite the effect of a July 2009 increase in the minimum wage.”
