According to crainsnewyork.com, “Pizza and fast-food chicken joints have not been spared in this downturn. Globe Restaurant Group, the franchisor of Goodfella’s Old World Brick Oven Pizza, filed for bankruptcy protection this week as did the owner of Franchise Kings of Midtown, which owns a Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits restaurant in Manhattan.”

“Founded in Staten Island more than 15 years ago, Goodfella’s Pizza has approximately eight franchises in New York and four other states, says Kevin Claffey, an attorney representing the company’s owner, Scot Cosentino. The original restaurant on Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island remains open, as does the first franchise located in Brooklyn. Darren Carbone, owner of the 10-year-old Brooklyn Goodfella’s Pizza says he does not expect the bankruptcy filing to significantly hurt his restaurant. “But I’m sure it will have some impact,” he said, noting that sales are off at his restaurant,” the story said.
