According to the Toronto Sun, “Pizza — a lot of it — was on the menu for a spectacle that attracted prize-winning power eater Takeru Kobayashi. ”

“Well known for winning eating contests in the United States, Kobayashi ate up the competition on Sunday, downing 10 pizzas sliced into 40 pieces in 12 minutes. Kobayashi won the $1,500 prize. It’s unclear what he’ll do with his other prizes — a prime parking spot and free pizza for a year. His travelling expenses were covered by PIE restaurant — the location of the eating contest. ‘Furious Pete’ Czerwinski, who once ate a 72-ounce steak, managed to stomach 29 pieces of pizza. Lara Martin, a psychology major at Laurentian University at Georgian College, the only female who participated, downed 11 pieces. ‘I feel like I’m going to throw up,’ she said, appearing during the final stages as if she just might. A crowd of more than 100 gathered behind the restaurant, seeking shelter under tents and umbrellas, to witness the event.”
