According to a news report from Recordnet.com, “When George Badway bought a parcel of property nearly 30 years ago on El Dorado Street at Charter Way, he was partly buying the heritage of the defunct Eddie’s Coffee Shop, once a well-known eatery and truck stop on the main road to San Francisco before the advent of the interstate highway.”

“He had a replacement restaurant in mind, but he envisioned being an owner, not actually operating the place. For lack of anyone answering his newspaper ad seeking a manager, though, George decided to become, well, Eddie,” the article said. “As in Eddie’s Pizza — the businessman’s first venture as a restaurateur.”

“It was a good run, too, up until he sold his three Eddie’s Pizza stores and an Eddie’s Classic Billiards in Stockton a month ago to a Bay Area pizza-restaurant owner,” according to the story.
