“The “Pizza Principle” is broken,” according to AM New York.

“The average price of a slice of pizza in the city is $2.81, according to a recent survey from Zagat, up about 40 cents from this time last year.

The uptick breaks the mystical “Pizza Principle” that has shown over the past few decades, with shocking accuracy, that the average price of a single slice in the city corresponds with the price of a single subway fare (currently $2.50, although buying multiple fares costs $2.25).

Chris Walsh of Zagat helped complete the survey, and said the company also found that 51% (the highest in the country) of Northeast residents fold their pizza to eat, and that people in the region eat pizza about 4.9 times per month.”
