According to bizjournals.com, “Former Papa John’s Pizza president Dan Holland has been named director of global franchising for Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Miami Subs Pizza & Grill.”

“Holland joined Papa John’s when the company had only 23 units. As president, he oversaw its growth to more than 900 locations before he resigned in 1995. As one of three principals of Papa John’s International Inc. (NASDAQ: PZZA), he was involved in taking the chain public. After he left Papa John’s, he remained a franchisee until 2000, when he launched Pizza Magia. Papa John’s sued the new company that same year, charging that its stores and commissary used systems and recipes copied from Papa John’s. The case was resolved in 2003, but terms were not disclosed. Pizza Magia’s stores and assets were eventually sold to Toledo, Ohio-based Marco’s Franchising LLC and to Florence, Ky.-based Snappy Tomato Inc.”
