According to a news report from winonadailynews.com, “The founder of Winona’s first pizza parlor died Friday at his home in Goodview. Thomas Barth, known to his friends as Rocco, was 77.”

“Barth and his wife, Betty, opened Rocco’s Pizza on Aug. 20, 1958, next to the Winona State campus,” said the story. “He wasn’t Italian, and he didn’t even like pizza. “He learned to,” Betty said. “He ate it about five nights a week.”
