California State Polytechnic University, Pomona to Host Student Culinary Competition
Pomona, Calif. – The California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF) is hosting the fifth annual California ProStart® Competition, sponsored by Boyds Coffee. This exciting event brings together talented high school students from ProStart® programs throughout California who are the future of the restaurant and foodservice industry.

WHAT: The Culinary Cup is separated into two categories, a culinary competition and a management competition. Teams from nine schools from across the state engage in a battle of skill and knowledge. Teams are awarded points on specific criteria including proper cooking procedures, safety and sanitation, presentation, product taste and teamwork.
DETAILS: Teams participating in the culinary competition will demonstrate their creative abilities through the preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes. Teams participating in the management competition will demonstrate their knowledge of the restaurant and foodservice industry through a case study and quiz event. Winning teams from each competition will be awarded first-, second- and third-place trophies and scholarships to pursue a postsecondary education. In addition, the first-place teams from each competition will be awarded a trip to compete in the National ProStart® Student Invitational in Charlotte, N.C., April 20-22.
