With no end in sight for the federal government shutdown, Wild Slice Pizzeria, located in Roswell, Georgia, has joined the growing list of pizza restaurants lending a helping hand to furloughed government employees.

Wild Slice owner Mike Thomas announced earlier this week that his family-friendly pizzeria will provide free food and drinks to those federal workers who are struggling to make ends meet without paychecks while politicians battle it out in Washington, D.C.

“If you are one of the many not receiving a paycheck due to the government shutdown, our thoughts are with you,” Thomas said in a statement announcing the offer. “We are a family-owned restaurant and have seen our share of difficult times. It’s hard to fully express how much we appreciate the work you do for our country. Our values and culture as a family and company are to identify any and all opportunities to serve our community.”

Wild Slice will provide a personal 10-inch, single-topping pizza to furloughed government employees and each member of their immediate families, Thomas said, as well as free drinks while supplies last.

“As long as the partial shutdown is in effect, our offer will stand,” Thomas said. “We hope that what little we are able to do will not only bring some relief but also inspire other businesses to do the same.”

Thomas said the pizzeria has received "hundreds of comments, messages, emails and phone calls from those impacted sharing their appreciation" for the offer.

Local media outlets, including Atlanta TV station CBS46.com and radio station Star941’s “Jeff and Jenn Show,” have helped spread word of the offer, scoring invaluable PR for Wild Slice in the process.

Other pizza restaurants around the country have chipped in to help government workers as well, as PMQ has previously reported. Scratch Brick Oven, located in Johnson City, Tennessee, and Pieology Pizza Craft in Indianapolis have extended similar offers. Meanwhile, D’Allesandro’s Pizza in Charleston, South Carolina, last week delivered free pizzas to Transportation Security Administration workers at the Charleston National Airport.
