U.S. Pizza Team Acrobatic and Culinary Trials
to take place in Las Vegas October 6-9, 2013
Held in conjunction with the IBIE Show, the event will attract
top dough-spinners and pizza chefs to Las Vegas Convention Center
Las Vegas, NV (August 30, 2013) – The U.S. Pizza Team Acrobatic Trials and the American Pizza Championship will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center as part of the International Baking Industry Expo (IBIE) Oct. 6-9, 2013. Spotlighted in IBIE’s PMQ Pizza Village, these competitions will draw the biggest and best in the fields of acrobatic dough-spinning and pizza culinary arts. The U.S. Pizza Team consists of expert chefs and “pizzathletes” from pizza restaurants across the U.S. The squad won the Team Acrobatics World Championship in Italy in 2011.
The U.S. Pizza Team hopes to attract new West Coast talent to take part in the acrobatic dough-spinning competition. The Freestyle Acrobatic event is by far the crowd favorite, as spinners show off their best moves, choreographed to popular rock and pop songs, and vie for acrobatic supremacy. Other events include Largest Dough Stretch, Fastest Pie Maker and Fastest Box Folder. Grand prize for the Freestyle Acrobatics competition will be a spot on the U.S. Pizza Team to compete in the World Pizza Championship in Parma, Italy, in the spring of 2014.
The American Pizza Championship, meanwhile, will challenge pizzaioli from around the U.S. to present their best pizzas in a culinary showdown. Categories include Best Pizza and Best Gluten-Free Pizza. First-place winners in both categories will also earn spots on the U.S. Pizza Team to compete in the World Pizza Championship. Judges will include, Domenico Crolla, owner of Bella Napoli in Glasgow; John Arena, owner of Metro Pizza in Las Vegas; Jeff Adams, staff writer for Celiac.com; Lisa Smith and Janet Rogers, writers for GlutenFreeLasVegas.Weebly.com; April Mastroluca, co-leader of the Las Vegas Celiac Support Group; Carlos Buscaglia, chef partner at Due Forni Restaurant in Las Vegas; and Rick Baker, Entertainer from the "Shades of Sinatra" show at the Clarion Hotel and Casino.
PMQ Pizza Magazine, the leading national trade publication for the pizza restaurant industry, created the U.S. Pizza Team in 2000.
