Chick-fil-A says it wants to “better serve” its customers, and apparently there’s just one menu item that will do the trick: pizza.
The chicken sandwich brand has announced that Little Blue Menu, its delivery-only concept, will add five pizzas to its roster at a location in College Park, Maryland, starting March 18. And not all of them will be topped with chicken.
The offerings include:
- The Chick-fil-A Pizza: mozzarella, chopped Chick-fil-A nuggets, Chick-fil-A sauce and pickles
- The Buff-lo-Ranch Pizza Pie: mozzarella, sliced Chick-fil-A nuggets, buffalo sauce ranch dressing drizzle, and lemon-pepper seasoning
- The Cheese Pizza Pie: tomato sauce and mozzarella
- The Pepperoni Pizza Pie: tomato sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni.
- The Meats-n-Veg Pizza Pie: tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sliced sausage, chorizo, meatballs, mushrooms and red bell peppers.
Also on the menu: the Pepperoni Pizza ‘Round, described as Chick-fil-A’s “twist on the classic calzone but meant to be carried a ‘Round,” with tomato sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni.
Chick-fil-A has been rated America’s favorite fast-food chain for nine years straight, according to the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). Its score of 85 surpasses pizza chains like Papa Johns, Dominos and Pizza Hut (although all three of those companies finished in last year’s top 10).
Done right, pizza, of course, isn’t fast food. But Chick-fil-A’s move is still noteworthy considering the brand’s popularity with consumers. Its score of 85 also tops the ACSI’s highest-ranked full-service restaurant chain, Outback Steakhouse, which last year earned a rating of 83.
Even so, Chick-fil-A’s addition of pizza at just one Little Blue Menu location looks more like an experiment than a chess move at this point.
“As an innovation kitchen brand, we are constantly looking at what our customers want to better serve them,” Stuart Tracy, Chik-fil-A’s senior culinary lead developer, said in a statement. “We’ve noticed our customers getting creative with Chick-fil-A ingredients on pizzas at home, so, we’ve decided to jump on board. Your taste buds already know the flavors, so it’s love before first bite.”
