“A 20-year-old Slidell man was sentenced to more than three decades in prison for robbing a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint for his wallet, cellphone and pizzas, reported the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Rondell Delaney, convicted of armed robbery in December, was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years at hard labor. The teenage Domino’s Pizza driver was delivering pizzas on Dec. 23, 2010, to a home on Banner Road near Slidell. Delaney and two others — Damion Christopher Stevenson, 20, and Henry Earl Banks III, 21, both also of Slidell — approached him, according to Assistant District Attorney Bruce Dearing.”
“Delaney was holding a handgun. He demanded the teenager’s cellphone, keys and wallet, and the pizza deliverer complied. Stevenson and Banks grabbed the pizzas and the trio fled. The pizza driver, without his keys, ran back to Domino’s a half-mile away and called authorities. When Delaney, Banks and Stevenson were arrested on Christmas Eve, they still had the cellphone and insulated pizza carrier, authorities said. Delaney, the reported gunman, chose a jury trial and was convicted in December of armed robbery, punishable by 10 to 99 years in prison. State Judge William Burris sentenced him Tuesday to more than three times the minimum punishment for armed robbery.”
