CLINTON, Miss. – Disaster assistance applicants who received a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan application should fill it out – even if they do not want a loan. A completed loan application is the gateway to determining the type of assistance for which a homeowner or renter may be eligible.
The SBA provides low-interest loans to help cover the cost of repairing or replacing lost or damaged structures and personal property.
Filling out the loan application does not mean an applicant will be approved for a loan, nor does it mean they must accept a loan if they are approved. Insurance does not have to be settled before submitting a completed SBA application. If the applicant is denied a loan, they will be further considered for additional Federal Emergency Management Agency programs for individuals and households.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
