Like many pizzeria owners today, Chef Peppino Spaghetti can barely pay his rent. Unlike most, though, he faces an even greater threat: a giant space laser pointed straight at his beloved Pizza Tower.

Can Chef Peppino make it to the top of Pizza Tower and foil the menacing Pizza Face—a floating pizza with a face—in time to save his business? That’s the idea behind a red-hot new game called, of course, Pizza Tower.

Described by PC Gamer as “madcap platforming at 100 m.p.h.,” Pizza Tower takes inspiration from 1990s cartoons like “Ren and Stimpy” and the popular Wario Land series, complete with zany animation and a hapless hero.

On his frantic, high-speed quest up the tower, Peppino Spaghetti, who’s tougher and more agile than his plump physique might suggest, must collect pizza toppings while battling monsters, rats and other deeply weird combatants.

PC Gamer’s review states that Pizza Tower, developed by Tour de Pizza, is “poised to be the next great speedrunning game, at its best evoking the glory days of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog.’”

“Peppino himself is a joy to control,” reviewer Scott McRae writes. “He may be a timid and anxious little chef, but he plays like an army tank with a Ferrari engine. He has a grab attack, a dash, a super jump and a dedicated taunt button which doubles as a parry—a Swiss army knife of satisfying platformer tools. And even when he’s at a full manic sprint, the game is incredibly tight and responsive.”

Writing for MSN.com, Matthew Fuller says the game has a total of 19 levels, “each with unique quirks and gimmicks with plenty of secrets and treasures to find.”

Pizza Tower is available on Steam and can be played on Steam Deck as well.
