Sally’s Apizza, the iconic New-Haven restaurant and bar founded by Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio in 1938, will officially cross Connecticut state lines when it opens in Woburn, Massachusetts, this week.

Sally’s Apizza Woburn is the first of several Sally’s restaurants to open in the state, including the forthcoming flagship in Boston’s Seaport District.

The opening of Sally’s Apizza Woburn brings classic favorites and noteworthy additions to the menu. First, guests will notice a variety of appetizers to start off the meal, such as Italian wings with Calabrian chili; meatballs served in marinara and accompanied with house-made focaccia; and brussels sprouts, charred in the oven and mixed with garlic, balsamic and Parmesan. Additionally, a Salumi & Mozzarella selection has been introduced. An expanded entree section includes Chicken and Eggplant Parmesan, a 12-ounce Ribeye and multiple pasta dishes.

Sally’s Apizza Woburn will continue to cater to pizza lovers, of course, using the same recipe that was invented nearly a century ago. Nine pizzas are featured on the menu including the classic Tomato Sauce Pie, as well as Mozzarella & Tomato and Potato & Rosemary pizzas. Available in three sizes, all pizzas are handmade and coal-fired, featuring the thin-charred crust, tangy tomato sauce and light touch of mozzarella that New Haven-style pizzas are known for.

While the brand changed ownership in 2018, long-time customers will be glad to know Sally’s sons, Ricky and Bobby Consiglio, are still involved with the business.

“We are excited for Bostonians to experience Sally’s and make memories a little closer to home,” said Ricky Consiglio. “Everyone on the team is committed to transporting the same experience our father dreamed up 85 years ago, and with the expansion of the menu and the bar, there really now is something for everyone, ensuring we stay in business for another 85 years.”

Imbibers will be pleased to learn that Sally’s Apizza Woburn has an extensive bar program. The full bar allows for easy pairings no matter what has been ordered. The drinks menu provides a selection of red and white wines both by the bottle and glass, including proprietary Italian varietals. Classic cocktails like Italian Old Fashioned and Sicilian Margarita, a dedicated “Spruzzo” section, mocktails, draft beer and fountain sodas, including New Haven original Foxon Park, to round out the selection.

While designed for the modern customer, Sally’s Apizza Woburn evokes the familial spirit of the original Wooster Street location. The signature honey oak wood-paneled walls are lined with a mix of Sally’s memorabilia and original, authentic artwork created by some of Massachusetts’s famous natives. Sally’s encourages the local community to hunt for various “Easter eggs” that have been incorporated into the design and aesthetic of the restaurant. The spacious and inviting dining room allows for guests to relax in one of the many caramel-colored leather booths or enjoy a meal at the 12-seat bar.
