The good thing about the recent explosion of “best pizzeria” lists is that, if your shop didn’t make one of them, you’ve always got a shot at the next one. Case in point: LoveFood.com, based in London, England, has food-related lists galore and recently added the world’s greatest food to its roster.

The LoveFood list, titled “The Best Pizza Place Open Now in Your State,” covers the American pizza scene from Alabama to Wyoming and from Maine to Hawaii. According to the website, the selections are “based on genuine user reviews, awards and accolades, and the first-hand experience of our team.”

The list includes famous spots in seemingly unlikely places, such as the sprawling Moose’s Tooth, founded in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1996 by Rod Hancock, a former rock-climbing world wanderer, and Matt Jones, a ski adventurer, who gave up careers in computer science and law (respectively) to get into the pizza business. You also have probably heard of Crust, the elegant yet unpretentious restaurant founded by Miami pizza power couple Anita and Klime Kovaceski, a pair of Macedonian transplants featured on PMQ’s April 2018 cover. (The Kovaceskis recently sold the pizzeria and have new culinary projects in the works.)

But the list also highlights lesser known but equally deserving pizza hotspots like Maialina, a Neapolitan pizza shop that opened in 2013 in Moscow, Idaho. And what about the Neapolitan-inspired Fireflour Pizza in Bismarck, North Dakota, or Dough Trader Pizza, based out of an old Tastee Freeze in Spearfish, South Dakota? Lists like this one are important because they bring attention to the many amazing pizzerias that can be found all across the U.S., including regions where pizza snobs seldom venture.

Here’s a look at LoveFood’s complete state-by-state list of the country’s best pizzerias. Is your pizzeria on it? If not, don’t fret: There’s probably another best-pizza-in-America list coming soon.
