Barro’s Pizza is moving from its longtime shop at 32nd Street and Chandler Boulevard in Ahwatukee to a new spot on the southwestern corner of 48th Street and Ray Road, the same corner as the new Sprouts market,” according to AZcentral.com.

“The pizza restaurant’s opening is expected in mid-September, said owner Bruce Barro. The current store will stay open until the new one opens.

The Ahwatukee store has been in the Chandler Boulevard strip mall about 25 years, opening as a small takeout and delivery spot. Then Barro opened a restaurant of 3,000 square feet and, a decade ago, took over space next door to expand to 4,000 feet.

“It’s a great neighborhood, but the businesses keep moving toward I-10,” Barro said. “I hope to increase lunch business and foot traffic with better visibility.”

The new spot is less than two miles from the current site.

“We hope to bring our existing customers with us,” he said. “It’s a great community.”

The chain has 31 restaurants in metro Phoenix plus one in Casa Grande and one in the far Southeast Valley at Johnson Ranch.”
