What does your job consist of?
I go to a lot of community events, schools, and competitions around the world. I’ve been three-time world champion for Canada.

How high are the stakes at a pizza-spinning competition?

I think in Vegas they’re giving $1,000, and the New York Pizza Show is doing the same amount. It’s not a lot of money. It’s mostly for the pride and the feeling of saying, “I’m the best in the world at what I do.”

Where did you get your start?

I started back in a small pizzeria in California. It’s very competitive — that’s where pizza-spinning started. A lot of people think it started in Italy, but it started in California. I was born in Mexico; the company found me through YouTube and Pizza magazine. They’re making history by giving me a full-time job as a pizza spinner. Most of the guys at the championships have families that own restaurants and chains; I started as a regular cook and I’m starting to make a living out of it.
