Detroit-style pizza has seen a meteoric rise in popularity over the past decade or so. In order to further its reputation—and to encourage tourism and commerce in and around the Motor City—Visit Detroit has announced the launching of the Detroit Pizza Pass, a digital pass that earns diners rewards for eating at area pizzerias.

The mobile-exclusive Detroit Pizza Pass incentivizes locals and visitors alike to buy pizza from restaurants like Buddy’s, Pie Sci Pizza, Pizzaman Pizza, Union Assembly and more. Pizza styles range from authentic Detroit-style pizza to New York-style and beyond. The program does not even require the downloading of an app: Shoppers can sign up online and bookmark the page in order to “check in” at the various restaurants.

“Detroit’s pizza heritage is unlike any other, and the Detroit Pizza Pass lets visitors savor it all,” Claude Molinari, president and CEO of Visit Detroit, said in a statement. “It’s a celebration of our city’s culinary creativity, and we can’t wait to take people on this delicious journey.”

The Detroit Pizza Pass is free to sign up for and gives users discounts at participating restaurants. The pass is instantly texted or emailed to those who opt to participate. Each dining experience earns points that can ultimately be rewarded for prizes, including Detroit pizza hats, aprons, shirts, stickers and more.

“As the originator of Detroit-style pizza, we’re excited to be a part of this new Detroit Pizza Pass program, and to be helping enthusiasts celebrate all things pizza in Detroit,” says Michelle Mullen, director of marketing for Buddy’s Pizza. “Detroit’s amazing pizza legacy and its current, vibrant scene are things to honor and experience, and we’re happy to play our part in both.”
