Scott Childers takes home the prize for best dough-stretching abilities

Oxford, Miss.
(September 20, 2007) – Have you ever tried to stretch a pizza dough? What about stretching it to an almost unthinkable 39.5 inches? That’s exactly what Scott Childers did when he won the Largest Dough Stretch competition held at this year’s Orlando Pizza Show hosted by PMQ’s Pizza Magazine and held in conjunction with the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show September 7-9 at the Orange County Convention Center.

Childers beat out the competition by stretching his dough to an incredible 39.5 inches, earning himself a place on the 2008 U.S. Pizza Team. He says that being able to spotlight the pizzeria he works for, travel around the country to compete, and be among the best in the industry are the best parts of winning a spot on the team.

Childers grew up in Tampa, Florida, and has been in the pizza industry for nine years, working for East Coast Pizza in Riverview, Florida, for the last two. He says that his favorite part of being in the industry is putting on a show for people.

He tells U.S. Pizza Team hopefuls to never give up and just keep having fun with what they do. One day he hopes his U.S. Pizza Team status will pave the way to an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
