Best Gourmet Pizza – Western Australia

The winner of the WA State Final in the Gourmet Category of the Dairy Farmers Best of the
Best Pizza Challenge is Raffaele Brotzu from Delizioso Cafe in Subiaco.

Triumphant at last Friday’s cook-off, Raffaele goes into the National Finals to be held in
Sydney in September at Fine Food Australia.

In this, the tenth anniversary year of The Dairy Farmers Best of the Best Pizza Challenge,
the competition format has expanded to include two different categories. Five competitors
cook off to find the best traditional pizza maker, and then a different group of five compete to
find the best gourmet pizza maker in the state. Both of these winners go on to compete in
the national finals.

Winners of awards for the best pizzas in the day’s various sub-categories included:
• Best Smallgoods Pizza – Marcello Lopes Dos Santos – Bellisimo Cafe, Claremont
• Best Specialty Pizza – Amy Millar – Little Caesars, Mundaring
• Best Cheese Pizza – Raffaele Brotzu – Delizioso Cafe, Subiaco

The other Gourmet Category finalists were:
• Brandon Farrell – Stone’s Pizza, North Perth
• David Bayliss – Little Caesars, Mundaring

The pizzas were all judged by a panel of three professional cooks on a range of elements
including originality, creativity, menu balance, use of ingredients and total appeal.
