The name Giordano’s is synonymous with deep-dish Chicago pizza. Founded in 1974, to celebrate its 50 anniversary, the chain recently announced a promotion. On Tuesdays ranging from April 2 through May 28, patrons can get a 50% discount on any dine-in pizza purchase at a Giordano’s full-service location.

“Giordano’s owes its existence to the unwavering love and dedication the Chicago community has shown us since 1974. This extraordinary milestone would not be possible otherwise,” said Giordano’s CEO Yorgo Koutsogiorgas. “As we reflect on our roots and look towards the next 50 years, we want to pay tribute and rightfully thank our loyal customers and visitors through special offerings for the remainder of the year.”

Giordano’s was founded by Italian immigrants Efren and Joseph Boglio. The first location opened in Chicago’s historic South Side in 1974, and the pizza on the menu was based on the Boglio’s family recipe. The brand was bought by the Apostolou family in 1988, who attempted to grow the brand over their two-decade ownership stint. Eventually, the Apostolous were forced to declare bankruptcy and the current owners bought Giordano’s for $61.6 million in an estate auction.

Over the years, the brand has grown from just the one location on the South Side of Chicago to over 60 locations in several different states. Most Giordano’s locations are in the Chicagoland area, but there are stores as far away as Florida.

A press release from Giordano’s stated that the mayor of Chicago had declared April 5, 2024 to be Giordano’s Pizza Day. “Giordano’s has not only perfected the art of deep-dish pizza-making but has also become an integral part of Chicago’s cultural fabric,” the press release stated. “Its welcoming ambiance, friendly staff, and commitment to using fresh, superior-quality ingredients create an experience that resonates with guests who will never forget their first time at Giordano’s.”
