Today on This Week In Pizza: Papa Murphy's Expanding in Canada; Pizza Hut Rolls Out Slider Pies; and Domino's Debuts 'Pizza Theater'

Yelp to Feature Restaurant Health Inspection Reports

Yelp announced in its official blog recently that the company will feature health inspection reports for restaurants on its site.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee announced last month that his city's official restaurant hygiene scores would be imported onto Yelp business pages. Additionally, Yelp has created a new open-data standard-called the Local Inspector Value-Entry Specification, or LIVES-to enable local municipalities to post their inspection reports on Yelp. The blog quotes a study of the Los Angeles restaurant industry which concluded that "when restaurant scores are posted conspicuously, best practices improve across the industry." Other major cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago, are reportedly planning to participate. To learn more, visit http://yelp.com/healthscores.

Domino's Unveils New Open-Kitchen Form

In an effort to freshen its concept, Domino's has unveiled a new open-kitchen format-dubbed "pizza theater"-that lets customers watch their pizzas being made.

Domino's wants to boost its carryout business and will soon add seating for a dozen or more customers in its shops, a chalkboard for customer comments and a grab-and-go section for salads, milk and other items. According to the Seattle Times, Domino's stores in the Seattle market will be the first to undergo the renovations. The chain also has redesigned its logo and dropped the word "pizza" to reflect a larger menu that includes sandwiches, pastas and desserts.
