If you didn’t wake up a billionaire from the Mega Millions lottery today, Villa Italian Kitchen has a consolation prize: a free slice of pizza.
Somewhere in South Carolina, one lucky person holds the winning lottery ticket worth more than $1.5 billion. Villa Italian Kitchen, headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey, feels sorry for everyone else who bought a ticket and won nothing. The chain announced on Tuesday that those poor saps can turn in their losing tickets today for a free slice of cheese pizza if they buy a beverage at participating locations.
“When we heard what the odds of winning the jackpot were, we couldn’t help but feel for all those who would be let down,” Mimi Wunderlich, Villa Italian Kitchen’s director of communications and digital marketing, said in a news release. “While a free slice of pizza isn’t a billion dollars, hopefully it will still make someone’s day.”
The Mega Millions tie-in is just the latest headline-grabbing promo from Villa Italian Kitchen. Last summer, the company partnered with a food stylist to design the Pizza-Kini, an edible bikini made entirely from pizza ingredients.
For bridal season in 2018, the company gave away edible “pizza bouquets” to random couples getting ready to tie the knot.
