As the major pizza chains continue to test the boundaries of menu innovation with unique LTOs, Papa Johns believes it has found a winner with its new Garlic 5-Cheese Crust Pizza.

Papa Johns said the limited-time pie was “inspired by the richness of garlic bread.” It features a blend of five cheeses: Parmesan, Romano, Asiago, Fontina and Provolone. The brand’s Garlic Parmesan sauce is applied in a ring around the edge of the crust prior to the bake.

In a video that dropped today, Mark Gabrovic, Papa Johns VP of culinary, broke down the flavors and texture of the pizza and showed how the pizza is built.

“What’s unique about it is the way it cooks,” he said. “You get a unique smoky flavor from the Provolone that you don’t have in any other of our cheeses. And also the Parmesan and the Romano, they add a crisp texture…it combines so well with our sweet sauce and the savory garlic Parmesan that we put around the crust. When this thing bakes…it’s absolutely gorgeous.”

“You know, I think a lot of people are actually gonna take this and turn it around and bite it from the outside in,” Gabrovic added. “I can’t wait for people to enjoy this pizza—it’s absolutely delicious.”

He said he’d recommend any toppings for the pizza, but he would opt for bacon and jalapeños. “I think that combination of flavors, with the crust that we’ve created, would be absolutely delicious.”

A large one-topping Garlic 5-Cheese Crust pizza sells for $11.99.
