Pizza lovers in Topeka are about to get a fresh take on the fast-casual phenomenon as Pie Five Pizza unveils its first location in the capital city this week.
Area residents will welcome the trend-setting restaurant and its handcrafted, personalized pizzas on Friday, Dec. 12. Located at 1129 SW Wanamaker Rd. in the Crosswinds Commons Center, the new restaurant will kick off its grand opening celebration at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting by the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. Topeka’s hit music station 94.5 FM will also be onsite, adding to the excitement with food and merchandise giveaways.
At Pie Five, guests can choose from more than a million combinations of handcrafted personal pizzas and a variety of specialty pie choices, all for one affordable price. This is an exciting time for franchise owner Dave Goebel of KC Pie LLC, who has already opened locations in Lenexa and Overland Park with plans for more in 2015. Goebel, former president and chief executive officer of Applebee’s, along with his wife Jan, sons Kerry and Kevin and daughter Lyssa, signed a 10-unit Pie Five franchise agreement in May of last year.
The Goebels and their team will kick off the radio remote with a check presentation to Children’s Mercy Hospitals. Pie Five has raised more than $21,000 at each of their restaurants through their on-going “Mercy Mondays” campaign, in which five percent of sales were donated to support the pediatric health center. The tradition will continue at the new Topeka location.
