Obviously, an independent pizzeria or small chain—even those that have found their niche or are poised to grow—can’t hope to match the digital reach of a major chain. But when we look at web traffic for smaller operations on a per-unit basis, we get a very different picture of what it takes to move your business to the next level in an increasingly data-driven economy.
For this year’s Pizza Power Report, we reviewed web traffic estimates from multiple third-party sources to zero in on the independent pizzeria websites that reach the largest audiences. We don’t claim that this ranking is in any way definitive; as stated elsewhere in the report, we recognize that estimates of web traffic and website rankings have always been dicey at best. (PMQ’s own site traffic has been underreported by some public sources. We’re used to it.)
While there are many factors involved in the digital success of these pizza companies, it’s worth checking out their sites to discover what they’re doing right—and to use their best practices to bolster your own digital presence. Keep in mind, however, that this list is based on estimated monthly traffic to each site, not the overall quality of the site. In some cases, a site’s popularity might very well be rooted in the pizzeria’s brick-and-mortar longevity, reputation and deep ties to the community rather than in its digital robustness.
No matter what, the internet continues to evolve, so your pizzeria’s website must always be thought of as a work in progress. Take the time to learn from the successful ones, and you will grow your traffic, too.
