Nick Bosa makes his living chasing down quarterbacks. Now the San Francisco 49ers defensive end is tackling pizza—with some help from acclaimed pizzaiolo Tony Gemignani.

Gemignani, an avowed 49ers fan, worked with Bosa to create The Boss, a limited-edition pizza featuring the NFL star’s favorite toppings. It debuted Thursday, September 10, at Tony’s Pizza Napoletana and Capo’s in San Francisco and will remain available through the end of the NFL season.

Better yet, it’s for a good cause: Half of the proceeds from every pizza sold will benefit Family House, a Bay Area nonprofit that provides free housing and other support to families whose children are undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Gemignani said Family House “has meant a lot to me over the years,” adding that he and Bosa “had a blast creating this pizza together, and knowing the impact it will have on the Family House families makes it even more meaningful.”

The Boss is built around ingredients Bosa personally favors, including charred fennel, sliced hot-honey sausage and pinched Italian sausage. The $38 pie also features tomato sauce, shaved Parmigiano, garlic, oil, oregano and fennel fronds.

Customers will get a different version of The Boss depending on which restaurant they visit.

At Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, it will be served on Gemignani’s proprietary High Five-style thin crust, made with Caputo 00 flour, Tony G California flour, semolina, spelt and rice flour. That version is topped with sliced mozzarella.

At Capo’s, the pizza takes the form of a Chicago cracker-thin, tavern-style pie finished with mozzarella, provolone and cheddar. Both versions will be available for dine-in only.

“I’m a big foodie, so getting to create my own pizza with Tony, a world pizza champion and one of the best in the business, was a really fun experience,” Bosa said. “We made The Boss using ingredients and flavors I genuinely love, and knowing that every pizza will support Family House and the families it serves makes it especially meaningful.”

The collaboration brings together two prominent names in the Bay Area. Bosa has been one of the NFL’s premier defensive players since joining the 49ers in 2019, while Gemignani has built a sizable restaurant portfolio anchored by Tony’s Pizza Napoletana. His other concepts include Slice House, Capo’s, Pizza Rock, Toscano Brothers and Dago Bagel.

Slice House, for which Gemignani launched a franchise program in 2022, now has nearly 150 locations open or in development.

Gemignani and Bosa plan to present the final donation to Family House following the conclusion of the NFL season in 2027.
