Mikey’s Late Night Slice in Columbus announced a collaboration on April 1 that sounded like a prank (especially if you know Mikey’s sense of humor), but it’s very real: The Cubzone, a collab with Lion’s Club Cookies, recently named the No. 2 cookie shop in the country by USA Today.

The Cubzone is a culinary crossover that marries the nostalgic, thick-bake style of Lion Cub’s cookies with the bold, irreverent flavors of Mikey’s Late Night Slice for a sweet pizza party.

It starts with Lion Cub’s signature sugar cookie dough, infused with Mikey’s secret spice blend. The center is layered with Mikey’s signature marinara and gooey cheese blend, along with mini pepperonis, then topped with a crunchy, baked-on cheese crust and more pepperoni for a textural finish that mimics the perfect slice. To complete the experience, every Cubzone is served with a side of Mikey’s Marinara for dipping, with the optional (and highly encouraged) addition of their infamous Unicorn Sauce.

“We wanted to do the thing brands always pretend they’re doing on April 1st – something so ridiculous people assume it’s fake – and then actually do it,” said Bradley Kaplan, founder of Lion Cub’s Cookies. “Lion Cub’s and Mikey’s are a perfect match for this type of thing.  We’re both local, deeply connected to our community, and we’re not afraid to have fun with creativity.”

Mikey’s Late Night Slice certainly isn’t. The brand is famous for pizzas with names like Thicc-Ass Pepperoni and the Vegan Fake-Ass Pepperoni, even the Fake-Ass BBQ Chick’n Pizza for vegans. It even lays claim to offering the “hottest pizza in the world”—the Fiery Death, loaded with peppers straight from Hades and “not for the faint of heart.”

So, not surprisingly, the Mikey’s team was equally eager to push the boundaries of their signature ingredients. “Savory cookies are no laughing matter, at least around here,” said founder Mikey Sorboro. “Local collaborations and April Fools’ have always been our favorite parts of the Late Night lore. So, when Brad approached me with this unconventional cookie idea, I knew we needed to make them happen.”

While the timing of the launch on April 1 was a nod to the audacity of the flavor profile, both brands confirmed that it’s a real product available for a very limited time at both Lion Cub’s Cookies locations and six Mikey’s Late Night Slice locations.
