Remember when camp was for kids? Welcome to Pizza Camp, a weekend journey of pizza awareness in Northeast Minneapolis that includes pizza nicknames, personal pizza making, pizza-themed BINGO, an homage to portly actor (think Paul Blart: Mall Cop) Kevin James and yes, lots of beer. Pastemagazine.com says the camp, conducted at Brahaus Brew Labs and co-directed by Paige Guggemos, founder of the Minneapolis Pizza Club, is promoted as a “not-for-profit overnight camp for pizza-loving adults.” When Chicago freelance writer Erin Nederbo arrived for camp, she was greeted by a balloon shaped like a pizza and a manila envelope filled with pizza swag.

Pizza Fans Cry, "Say It IS So, Joe!"
"Say it ain't so" is a quote that's meaningful to baseball fans and now pizza fans of a famous South Side Chicago pizzeria. Sanfratello's Pizza is among the originators of Chicago's other pizza—thin-crust, square-cut tavern style. The popular pizzeria recently recalled the anniversary of a youngster's pleading to baseball star Shoeless Joe Jackson outside a Chicago courthouse on September 28, 1920. Jackson admitted to throwing World Series games that fall in the Black Sox scandal, resulting in the lifetime .356 hitter being banned from the game. To commemorate the cry heard round the baseball world, Sanfratello's, on Sept. 28, offered a large pizza topped with black olives in the shape of a black sock at its Highland, Indiana, location.
