After dominating for four years, Pizza Hut fell to No. 3 in The Harris Poll’s Equitrend Study of brand health, and Papa John’s has taken its place as the 2017 Pizza Brand of the Year. Blaze Pizza was No. 2, and Marco’s Pizza came in at No. 4. Papa John’s performance was a comeback; after winning the No. 1 spot in 2012, the chain “experienced a significant decline the following year in quality perceptions,” a Harris Poll exec told PMQ. “It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what drove the increase, but we can say Papa John’s performed better than Pizza Hut in emotional connection and fit.”
