The average independent American pizzeria is fighting battles on multiple fronts. Maybe there’s a rival independent pizzeria down the street. Or a convenience store that sells a halfway decent slice across town. And with rising food costs driving prices ever higher, more consumers are content buying the increasingly solid frozen pizzas offered at grocery stores across the U.S.

But more often than not, an independent pizzeria’s biggest competitor is a pizza chain. Whether it’s Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars or Papa Johns—or some mix of all of the above—most pizzeria operators should be plugged into what the chains are up to. Keep your friends close and your rivals closer, as they say.

This year, PMQ teamed up with Datassential to bring readers a look at the top 30 pizza chains in the U.S., and how they stack up in terms of sales and total number of locations.

Here’s a look at the largest pizza chains in the country.
