Story: Pizza Hut Helps American Red Cross Feed Tennesseans

According to RedCross.org, “Pizza Hut played a large role in helping the American Red Cross feed hundreds of individuals and families in Nashville over the past couple of days. NPC International, the largest franchisee of Pizza Hut around the world, saw a need to help the families in the Nashville, TN, area. Most had lost electrical power and telephones, and the hardest hit were driven from their homes and apartments by record flooding around the massive Cumberland River and some of its feeder tributaries.”

“’But,’ explained Kirby Mynier, Vice President of Operations, East Territory, based in Brentwood, TN, ‘we didn’t have any kind of distribution network. We knew we had to do something and with a massive mobile pizza oven, available, we had the capability to turn out a large number of pizzas for those affected people. He said they looked around and realized that the American Red Cross was the natural choice for a partnership. “They have been feeding people in shelters and affected communities with their food distribution network for many years. So we reached out and they enthusiastically welcomed our participation.’ Kirby said that in two days, the Pizza Hut van produced and the American Red Cross distributed some 2,300 pizzas on Wednesday and approximately 4,000 on Thursday.”
