It has no flavor, and it won’t give you a buzz, but cannabidiol—a non-psychoactive extract of the hemp plant—might be the pizza topping of the future.

Spinelli’s Pizzeria in Tempe, Arizona, announced recently that it will let customers spike their cocktails, beers, soft drinks and even their pies with cannabidiol, better known as CBD oil. “I truly believe in innovative forms of treating pain and mood disorders, and I’m so proud we’re the first bar and restaurant in the area to offer CBD extract to our guests,” Spinelli’s owner Christopher Palma said in a statement.

For an extra $5, customers can get a CBD oil boost added to their beverages or to a slice of pizza. The oil can be added to an entire pizza for $10.

Although derived from hemp, CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana. It doesn’t cause a high and has been promoted as a treatment for managing chronic pain as well as anxiety and insomnia, even as a cure for cancer. “But experts say the evidence is scant for most of these touted benefits,” according to WebMD.com, and the oil is “being produced without any regulation, resulting in products that vary widely in quality.”

Although some CBD suppliers have likely overstated CBD oil’s pharmaceutical and health benefits, it’s legal in 30 states that allow medical or recreational marijuana use. “The strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically don’t respond to antiseizure medications,” Dr. Peter Grinspoon writes on the Harvard Medical School website.

With or without doctor’s orders, Spinelli’s is offering six limited-time CBD-infused cocktails during February, including:

The Drug Mule: Tito’s Vodka, Agwa de Bolivia, Goslings Ginger Beer, fresh mint, CBD extract ($12)

CBDITO: Tito’s vodka mojito, CBD extract ($12)

Cucumber Lemonade: Hendrick’s Gin, homemade lemonade, CBD extract ($12)

Wake & Bake: Jack Daniel’s with CBD extract ($9)

The Caregiver’s Daughter: Southern Comfort, CBD extract ($9)

Doobie Snack: Malibu rum, melon liquor, Crème de Banana, pineapple juice, CBD extract ($9)

Forbes has identified CBD oil as one of the hottest food trends of 2019.
