With just one week until Super Bowl XLI, a new survey from Jacent Technologies measures consumer attitudes towards ordering takeout on game day
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — January 29, 2007 — Jacent Technologies, the leading supplier of ordering solutions for the restaurant and hospitality industries, today announced the results of its second annual State of Super Bowl Takeout Survey. The results, based on 1,000 respondents and conducted by independent market research firm Synovate, highlighted the fact that the majority of people ordering food for the Super Bowl will order takeout from pizza and fast casual restaurants, and demand short wait times on the phone.
The second annual survey resulted in a few key findings most notable is how long people are willing to wait on hold to place an order. In 2006, fifty-one percent (51%) of respondents said they would wait no longer than 2 minutes. In 2007, that number has grown to sixty-two percent (62%).
“Super Bowl Sunday will be the biggest single day of the year for business at pizza restaurants, and a major one for the restaurant takeout industry in general,” said Trevor Stout, president and CEO of Jacent Technologies. “With our second annual Super Bowl Takeout Survey we’ve seen a significant increase in consumer expectations as well as a steady comfort level with consumer ordering technologies which can help restaurants better handle peak ordering traffic and ensure wait-times are kept to a minimum.”
Additional key findings of the new survey include:
- 62% of respondents are not willing to wait on hold for over two minutes; 28% of respondents are willing to wait for 3-5 minutes; and only 10% of respondents will wait for 6-10 minutes.
- 60% of respondents were most likely to order pizza during the Super Bowl; 33% plan to order from local restaurants that offer takeout service; and, 7% plan to order from other venues or pick up fast food.
- 57%, order for 3-6 people during the Super Bowl, while 18% order for 7-12 people, and 5% expect to order for 13 or more.
- 50% of respondents would opt to use an automated ordering system instead of waiting on hold; while an additional 33% will consider using an automated system to help shorten their wait time.
