Round Table Pizza believes it makes pizza fit for a queen—even queens who don’t eat pizza.
The Concord, California-headquartered chain has sent a formal invitation to Queen Elizabeth to try their pies for free in 2019. If she agrees before December 31, customers can enjoy free personal pizzas at any participating location (dine-in only).
Round Table launched the promotion after the queen’s daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, admitted to a group of children that she wasn’t sure if Her Majesty liked pizza. Middleton was visiting King Henry’s Walk Garden in Brighton and helping the kids make their own pies when a little girl asked, “Has the queen ever had pizza?”
The Duchess of Windsor (below) had to think about it. “You know, that’s such a good question,” she said. “I don’t know. Maybe next time I see her, shall I ask?”

Round Table Pizza wasted little time pursuing the answer. “How could it be that the monarch who has experienced so much has not enjoyed the pleasure that is baked cheese, sauce and dough?” the company said in a press release about the promo. “Round Table Pizza is on a mission to right this royal wrong.”
The chain said that if their invitation “succeeds in convincing the queen to publicly announce that she has, in fact, eaten pizza between today and Dec. 31, 2019, participating Round Table Pizza locations will invite customers to enjoy one FREE Original Personal Pizza (cheese or pepperoni, dine-in only) at a to-be-determined later date and time."
“In other words, if the queen eats pizza, you eat pizza,” said Geoff Goodman, Round Table’s executive vice president, in the press release.
The company also set up a website where customers can register to receive a “special ‘royal’ offer,” get updates about the queen and watch a countdown clock tick off the seconds until the end of 2019.
Will the Queen accept the offer? Well, we know she’s “not a foodie,” as former royal chef Darren McGrady told the Telegraph in 2017. But she will strap on her bib and dig into beef and venison fillets and is partial to scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and truffles—that is, when she’s not simply enjoying a bowl of Special K cereal and fruit for breakfast. And she generally avoids starch. “No potatoes, rice or pasta for dinner,” McGrady said. “Just usually something like grilled sole with vegetables and salad.”
