As the dead of winter approaches, traffic can spring to life for pizzeria operators, thanks to three big days on the calendar: National Pizza Day (February 9), Super Bowl Sunday (February 11) and Valentine’s Day (February 14). But Robert Garvey, owner of Robert’s Pizza & Dough Co. in Chicago, doesn’t take any chances. A savvy pizza marketer, Garvey always plans ahead for these big events.

For National Pizza Day and Super Bowl Sunday, Robert’s Pizza already has his specials set up, along with a romantic couples menu designed specifically for Valentine’s Day.

Robert’s Pizza will celebrate National Pizza Day with a special happy hour from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. To go along with their beers or cocktails, customers can purchase Robert’s Super Slices (¼ of a whole pie) for $8, including guest favorites like The Lia (cheese), The Rita (Margherita), The Jay (sausage) and Cup n’ Char (pepperoni).

Also on February 9, Robert’s Pizza will join pizzerias from across the nation on Slice Out Hunger’s Pizza Across America campaign, in which pizza shops donate pizzas to local nonprofits that combat food insecurity. All totaled, Robert’s will donate 200 pizzas, with the first batch going to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. They’re also asking guests to share ideas on which organization should receive the next donation.

Two days later after National Pizza Day comes the Big Game, and Robert’s will bring back its big-screen TV—complete with a state-of-the-art sound system—for a viewing party in the dining room and show the game on every other TV in the house, too. Meanwhile, the pizzeria will offer game-day drink specials including $30 buckets of beers, $5 draft beer, $7 glasses of wine, and specialty cocktails (such as the Mule, the South Side and the Old-Fashioned) for $9.

Super Bowl food specials will include everything from artisan meatballs for $10, mussels for $11, calamari for $12, a dozen wings for $28 and two dozen wings for $52.

As a carryout special for the Big Game, Robert’s customers can choose any three specialty pizzas for $70 or opt for three Lia cheese pies for $58. If they go for either pizza special, they can also get 20% off on wings, salads, guacamole, pico de gallo and brownies.

Meanwhile Valentine’s Day is always a big event at Robert’s Pizzeria—so big that Garvey and his team will celebrate it twice. In 2024, they will offer a special four-course dinner for two on Saturday, February 10, and on Wednesday, February 14. Couples can indulge in a split of prosecco or two specialty cocktails along with a carefully curated menu for $125 per couple.

The Valentine’s Day menu includes small plates (Sweet Potato & Leek Soup, Grilled Octopus or Bruschetta—customers choose two of the three); a salad (Mediterranean, Apple Hazelnut or the Oh Baby) and, of course, a pizza. For the latter, customers have numerous options, including:

  • Walk in the Woods: mushrooms, truffle cream base, double-cream wash-rind cheese and fresh mozz
  • Prosciutto & Arugula: 18-month prosciutto di parma, fresh mozz, EVOO and lemon vinaigrette
  • Roasted Vegetable: roasted cherry tomatoes, red pepper, Calabrian chiles, mushrooms, caramelized onions, spinach, garlic, fontina cheese and EVOO
  • Seafood: shrimp, clams, calamari, fresh mozz, EVOO and fumet
  • The Rita: buffalo mozzarella, red sauce, oven-roasted tomatoes and basil
  • Acorn Squash & Sausage: fennel sausage, fresh mozz, Calabrian oil, shaved Parmesan, Stracciatella and candied walnuts
  • Crab & Squash Blossom Pizza: squash blossom dipped in tempura and filled with stracciatella

For dessert, the lovebirds can choose from a Passion Fruit Raspberry Tart or a Heart-Shaped Ice Cream Pizza.
