Sometimes simple economics trumps nostalgia. 

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports, after 55 years of operation, the nation’s oldest Pizza Hut will close its doors August 2. The Manhattan, Kansas, hut is one of dozens managed by Topeka native Bernie Butler, who stated that despite the historic nature of the store,  “we finally had to acknowledge that the financial side of the business outweighed the history of the place.” The Manhattan Pizza Hut was geared primarily to dining in and not the increasingly vital delivery model of service.
