PMQ Pizza Roundup for July 3

Big news in the food service industry this week when Sysco gave up its merger dreams with US Food after the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. passed an injunction halting the deal. The ruling that Pizzeria Beddia in Philadelphia serves the best pizza in America isn't an official ruling — just the opinion of Bon Appétit's Andrew Knowlton. He says the restaurant's classic, fresh ingredients and charred crust offer a "beautiful experience."

Speaking of classic pizza and pizza chefs trained the old-school way, Ridgewood, New Jersey’s premiere authentic Neapolitan trattoria A Mano, has added award-winning pizzaiolo Michele D’Amelio. The decorated pizza maker from Italy, will oversee A Mano's Neapolitan pizza-making team. PMQ's own pizza test chef, Brian Hernandez, shares his thoughts on video after losing 30 pounds and wrapping up his 4-month pizza diet.

Proving that pizza and Motown make beautiful music together, Buddy's Pizza in Detroit raised the curtain on its Motown Museum Pizza with partial proceeds supporting the Motor City's musical heritage. Finally, one of the latest crops being produced at farms in America's Upper Midwest heartland is pizza. You don't get any fresher when all the ingredients are home-grown and diners are visiting the farm to enjoy pies that have nothing to do with apples or cherries.
