Pizzeria owners, managers and employees can earn invaluable national exposure for their brands on ESPN3 by competing in the U.S. Pizza Team’s upcoming Spring Acrobatic Trials competition at the SOFO Foods Signature Showcase, to be held Sunday, April 28, in Toledo, Ohio.

You don’t have to be a SOFO customer to attend the event, which is free, or to compete in the Spring Acrobatic Trials contest. The SOFO Foods Signature Showcase runs from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the Seagate Convention Centre in Toledo.

Open to all acrobatic competitors, the Spring Acrobatic Trials will feature contests in Freestyle Acrobatics, Largest Dough Stretch, Fastest Pie Maker and Fastest Box Folder categories. The grand prize for the winner of the Freestyle Acrobatics event is a free trip to compete with the USPT at the European Pizza & Pasta Show, to be held November 13-15 in London, England.

Earlier this year, ESPN3’s broadcast of the USPT’s Winter Trials—held at the Mid-America Restaurant Expo in Columbus, Ohio—marked an historic first for the pizza restaurant industry, PMQ publisher Steve Green noted in PMQ’s April cover story. “This is a huge step forward for pizza sports and for all of those independent operators looking for a way to set themselves apart from their competitors, especially the big chains," Green said. "ESPN’s coverage will open the door to new branding and exposure opportunities for pizzeria owners looking for a unique marketing slant. You or one of your pizza makers could be the next Tom Brady of pizza sports.”

Green later added, “As more pizzeria owners join us and help us promote these competitions to their customers and brand fans, I can envision pizza sports growing in popularity and moving up quickly from ESPN3 to ESPN2 and, eventually, ESPN itself.”
