According to TCPalm.com, “at 10 years old, Abby Alonzo should be focusing on friends, school, soccer and the fun things in life.”
“Instead, she’s in the fight of her life, battling stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Alonzo, a Port St. Lucie resident and fifth-grade student at St. Anastasia Catholic School in Fort Pierce, will get an early Christmas present from the Van Duzer Foundation — with some help from Santa Claus. From 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Big Apple Pizza & Pasta, 3211 S. 35th St., Fort Pierce, 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of pizza, subs, salads, wings, knots and more than 150 donated baked goods will go to Alonzo’s family to help cover her medical costs. Santa Claus will be available for photos, and patrons can also donate money — or blood — to help Alonzo. ‘When you hear a story like Abby’s, at this time of the year, it really hits you hard,’ said Scott Van Duzer, president of the foundation that bears his name. ‘I hate to see people suffer and we just hope that we can make a difference for Abby and her family.'”
