Americans really, really love pepperoni. That will surprise nobody. But how many people know that it’s actually onions—found on 77% of of U.S.-based pizzeria menus—that are the most common pizza topping?
As part of the 2025 Pizza Power Report, PMQ collaborated with Datassential to find the most popular pizza toppings in the U.S., as well as which toppings are the fastest up-and-comers.
The trending ingredients chart might especially be of interest to pizzeria operators who are always looking for ways to separate themselves from the competition. Hopping on top of menu trends early can bring in new business and give returning customers something new to try.
Plant-based pepperoni has shown such explosive growth in the past four years that Datassential was willing to call it “infinite” (which officially denotes 4,000% growth or more). Hot honey (430%) and pepperoni cups (406%) were other heavily trending toppings, as were internationally-sourced ingredients like cotija cheese (163%) and tandoori (153%).
Here’s a look at the rest of the most popular and fastest-growing pizza toppings.
