Sometimes big ideas come in small packages—and they don’t get much bigger (or smaller) than the Pizza Cupcake, a New York innovation that has caught the attention of some of the world’s trendiest corporations. Now the little mom-and-pop Brooklyn company behind the innovative food is going nationwide.

Andrea Meggiato invented the Pizza Cupcake, made with a signature blend of pan brioche and sourdough for a fluffy texture and topped off with fresh mozz and San Marzano tomatoes, plus the option of pepperoni, zucchini or mushrooms. Since 2018 the Italy-born Meggiato has run the company with his first-generation Filipina-American wife, Michelle Jimenez-Meggiato.

According to a press notice, the cupcake-baking couple has taught pop superstar Mariah Carey and rapper Blood Orange how to make pizza.

The Pizza Cupcake has earned rave reviews as a concession stand at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, and in Brooklyn’s prestigious Smorgasbord market. The Meggiatos also cater events for leading-edge companies like Buzzfeed, Instagram, Facebook, Comedy Central, the New York Times and others.

Pizza Cupcake options include cupcakes topped with pepperoni, zucchini or mushrooms.

In addition to catering services, the company has been offering delivery around New York—including Brooklyn, Manhattan and Astoria—since March 27. The orders come in 12- and 24-packs priced at $24.95 and $44.95. Now the Pizza Cupcake will start shipping nationwide on May 4. The pizza cupcakes arrive frozen and can be heated in an oven at 375° for 10-12 minutes.

The Meggiatos also founded the Support NYC Initiative, which donates one box of pizza cupcakes for every order of a 24-pack to the frontline heroes fighting the coronavirus pandemic and to nonprofits like the Lower Eastside Girls Club.
