According to the St. Louis Business Journal, “Fast-food industry magazine QSR has named Chris Sommers’ Pi Pizzeria one of the Top 20 Food Trucks in the nation. With food trucks being THE hot culinary trend, Sommers said the national recognition is quite an honor and timely one, too, with the restaurant launching its first Washington, D.C., truck this week. ‘The company there makes it exciting,’ he said. ‘To get national cred was pretty cool.'”
The trade publication’s February edition wrote not only about the Pi truck’s deep-dish, cornmeal-crust pizza but also about how tech-savvy the business is. Pi uses an iPad paired with Twitter co-founder and native St. Louisan Jack Dorsey’s credit-card processing technology Square as its point-of-sale customer check-out. Pi uses Twitter to announce the truck’s locations. Pi also “constructs a mini-park with bistro tables and artificial turf for diners, offers WiFi access, donates remaining product to local food banks and makes weekly stops at charitable fundraisers, all of which cements its spot as a St. Louis wonder,” according to the magazine. Sommers is still scouting locations for a brick-and-mortar location in downtown St. Louis, including at the Mercantile Exchange and Farm & Home buildings.”
