According to a news report from thepittsburghchannel.com, “Tyler Kennedy’s empty-net score put the final touches on the Penguins’ 7-4 victory over Carolina Thursday night at Mellon Arena — but it also cost a McDonald pizzeria big time. “I needed to put new box toppers on, and I wondered what would catch everybody’s eye,” said Neil Gianni, of Gianni’s Pizza and Hoagies on Noblestown Road. “And I said, hey, if the Penguins score seven goals, we will give away free pizzas all the next day — a free, 12- inch pizza.” It seemed like a safe move at the start of the postseason, because the Pens hadn’t put seven pucks in the net in one playoffs game in nearly 10 years.”
